Breast Uplift With Implants

Treatment overview

Breast lift surgery, when combined with breast augmentation, is an operation to lift and shape the breasts while placing implants to enhance volume.

Some women experience ‘empty’ breasts, particularly after breastfeeding or weight loss. A breast uplift makes the breasts firmer and higher, with a more appealing shape, but very empty breasts can benefit from combining this procedure with implants. During a mastopexy augmentation, your skin and breast tissue (and most commonly the nipple too) are lifted and reshaped while extra volume is added by means of an implant.

Breasts naturally droop with age, because the skin and fibrous ligaments in the breast become stretched and are unable to offer the support they used to. The supporting fibrous ligaments can’t be replaced or restored, but the breasts can be reshaped by removing extra skin, remodelling the tissue, and moving the nipples up to a higher position. Some women choose to have the breasts enlarged at the same time, for added shape and volume.

FAQ’s

Augmenting breasts with implants is an effective way to boost a woman’s cup size and bust, and if the breasts are shapely and pert, with a well-positioned nipple, then augmentation alone might be enough to deliver the desired outcome. For many women, issues such as low nipple position and excessive skin are equally important as volume, making an uplift with implants a more complete solution.

Skin incisions are placed to allow the reshaping and lifting of your breast tissue and nipple. Your breast is then reshaped and lifted by the surgeon. Any stitches that are placed will be absorbable, and scarring kept to a minimum. A breast uplift with implants is a highly skilled procedure, balancing the placement of implants with the other, delicate surgical elements of an uplift. Mr Khoda brings his skill and experience to bear to ensure that both the implants and the uplift parts of the surgery work in tandem to deliver shapely, enhanced breasts. Volume is often removed from the lower part of the breast as this part of the breast sags with time.

Mr Khoda’s approach is to carry the nipple-areolar complex (brown part of the breast) on some breast tissue to keep it alive, which usually protects nipple sensation. It is possible for the blood supply to the nipple to be compromised, in which case the nipple might scab.

We offer three types of uplift:

  • Anchor shaped technique (the Wise pattern). The Wise pattern is the original breast reduction surgery procedure, also known as the anchor technique, as it leaves an anchor-shaped scar. This is a full uplift, is highly versatile, and can provide predictable outcomes.
  • Vertical scar technique. This is a full uplift that is particularly effective in women with ptosis (low nipples in relation to the rest of the breast shape).
  • Modified uplift (Benelli technique). The Benelli breast lift provides excellent breast-shaping results with the most minimally invasive incisions. The procedure is a great solution for those who want to moderately firm, lift, and shape their breasts without adding extra volume.

Breast uplift with implants surgery takes between 90 and 120 minutes, depending on the extent of surgery and on anatomy. Most patients take 3 weeks off work to recover. Heavy lifting and intensive exercise are to be avoided for 3 months, and it can take 3-6 months for the implants to fully settle.

A breast uplift with implants delivers lasting results, but no such procedure is permanent. The skin of the breasts will continue to stretch due to the impact of gravity, particularly when the breasts are large and heavy. No uplift is permanent, and longevity depends on elasticity of breast tissues.

Several patients may benefit from using GALAFELX Mesh which provides a “hammock like” support to the lower part of the breast. The mesh is biodegradable and integrates with the breast tissue. It acts like an internal bra. The mesh does not permanently prevent sagging; it merely prolongs the results of the breast uplift. This technique is useful for patients with poor skin elasticity following weight loss.

If you are overweight or planning to become pregnant, Mr Khoda might suggest delaying your operation. Patients who are smoking nicotine products must stop 4 weeks prior to surgery.

All surgeries can lead to complications, but Mr Khoda works in a safe and consistent manner to minimise any risks. He uses the non-touch technique, avoiding skin contact with any part of the wound or any substance or surface that will come into contact with the wound, such as the inner surface of dressings. The most common complications with surgery are bleeding, haematomas, infection, numbness, alteration in nipple sensation, and the need to return to theatre for further procedures. Surgery also presents a risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Scarring around the areola can stretch and there is a risk of nipple necrosis which is raised by Nicotine products.
